Specialized equipment for carbohydrate and protein analysis is placed in this area. We identify and quantitate carbohydrates by different high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) and capillary electrophoresis (CE) methods. Amino acid composition, trace elements and organic acids in fermentation media, reaction solutions, etc. are also investigated by ion chromatography techniques. The molecular mass and isoelectic point (pI) of proteins are identified by various electrophoretic methods such as SDS-PAGE, native PAGE, isoelectric focusing, chromatofocussing in combination with various staining-techniques or spectrophotometric detectors. The thermodynamic characterization of proteins is studied by isothermal titration calorimetry.
