Dr. ir. Wouter Van Hecke (° 1982) has a master's degree in bioscience engineering (2005) and a PhD in applied biological sciences (2009), both obtained at Ghent University. During his PhD, he spent 5 months at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna for the production and purification of oxidoreductases and upscaling of a bi-enzymatic conversion. He's currently employed in the Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO, Business Unit Separation and Conversion Technology) and has experience in (continuous) fermentation technology, biocatalysis, in situ product recovery technologies for recovery of inhibitory compounds from lab to pilot scale, filtration membrane bioreactors, kinetic modeling (in Matlab) and chemical process simulation software (in Chemcad).
